Stay healthy in old age

I don’t often write about maintaining a good healthy regime as you move through retirement in this newsletter and sometimes, I think that’s a mistake as its good to be constantly reminded of the need to be proactive about your health.
Of course, this doesn’t mean adopting an extreme diet and giving up all the foods that you love or going to extreme lengths to increase or maintain your fitness as you age.
However, something as simple as just making sure you go for a walk each day even if it’s just around the block or eating a piece of fruit at each meal, can be instrumental in ensuring you maintain a healthy body and positive state of mind.
S just as a simple reminder, here are ten things you should keep in mind
1. Watch what you eat and drink. Be moderate in all you drink and eat, avoid takeaways and look to eat a range of foods to ensure you stay healthy.
2. It’s easy to stop going to the dentist but this can be a big mistake as you get older.
3. Stay active. Just moderate exercise is enough but make sure you do something physical on a regular basis.
4. Visit your doctor often and keep up to date with tests and vaccines. They will help to keep you healthy for longer.
5. Vitamin boosts and supplements are a good idea as you get older.
6. Look after your feet with regular pedicures. If you start getting sore feet, you will reduce moving about and that will lead to one bad health condition after another which in turn will prompt you to move around less.
7. Make sure you get eight hours sleep and if you are not getting a regular eight hour sleep, find out what the problem is and fix it.
8. Take any test your doctor recommends. Typically, if they find a problem early, they can fix it.
9. It’s easy as you age to stay home more and more. Make the effort to get out and mix with people. It will help you keep a better state of mind and body.
